My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all students can learn. Learning is the acquiring of general knowledge on a subject. All students have the capability to learn, and to create a lifelong attitude of learning. Teaching is the transferral of knowledge from one source to another. As a teacher, my job is to transfer knowledge on topics from myself to my classroom.

I believe in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment in the classroom. A wild and uncontrolled place is not conducive to learning. I strive to create a place where children wish to come.

I believe in creating and building legitimate relationships with children. I wish to know about their lives and to be a trusted adult for them. I wish to go to ballgames, performances, graduations, and other public appearances to show them that not only do I care about your education, but I care about you.

I believe in using research-based strategies for instruction. I enjoy lecturing, think-pair-share, hands-on activities, labs, gallery walks, group and partner work, and many other strategies. These regularly make my classroom an engaging place to be.

I believe in assessing learning through projects, exams, tests, and quizzes. Learning requires application, and these are the best place for that application to take place.

I believe in using technology in the classroom. The best practice is to embrace it to make it more accessible and engaging.

Lastly, I believe in life-long learning. As a professional and person, I want to continue to learn and grow to be the best version of me I can be. I want to be an example to my students that they can also become life-long learners too.
